Here is why "exclusivity deals" are stupid. This pic is a customers Corsair K70 low profile. He won this keyboard in some contest that apparently wasn't sanctioned by Corsair (or something about whoever had it wasn't an authorized reseller - it's a bit unclear from all the emails they sent) so they will not honor any warranty. No big deal. A slider broke. It's just one switch. It would normally be $3-5 in parts, and about $10-15 in labor. For less than $20, this local customer could be back up and going. But instead, he can't. Corsair has exclusivity on...
So we keep up with the happenings in the keyboard world. Most of the time, its the same old thing... someone does it slightly better, or this or that is available in a new color - but its lots of the same (which is ok - but makes finding new and interesting keyboards pretty tough) So color us surprised when we had Razer suggest we take a look at their new optical mechanical switch. The technology is nothing new to be honest. Lots of companies have optical mechanical switches. But nobody has really done it like Razer has on this...
Don't get us wrong - we know Logitech is like most other companies, and makes every concession to save a few dollars - but this is a bit over the top. They make a cheap and VERY plastic keyboard. But in the "cheap plastic keyboard" category, we used to hold them in slightly higher regard than this. Know what you're buying people! Wonder why your Logitech mechanical board always fails? Here is why - ripped pads on a G613 circuit board - this was brand new! That PCB is out of a Logitech G613 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard. It's in their...
There are only a few companies making plate mounted stabilizers that most gaming mechanical keyboards use. Almost none of those boards come with genuine Cherry stabilizers. Here is why that matters: the cheap imitation stabilizers leave a ton of room for the bar to shift. When you take a metal rod, and give it room to clank around, its going to get noisy. It also allows the possibility of key bonding if you catch a corner of a key at a weird angle. With genuine Cherry stabilizers, the hole for the connecting rod is smaller, allowing enough room for movement,...
