A word from our President:
I have been a keyboard enthusiast for a couple of decades now. Sometimes I strayed from mechanical keyboards, but I always seemed to find myself back with one after a short period.
My first mechanical was an IBM Model M. I remember my dad walking me into a small second hand computer parts in Houston, TX when I was picking out parts to build one of my first computers. I do not remember what he had at the time that I was using, but I remember the first time I typed on that dusty keyboard sitting in the corner, I was hooked.
Over the last couple of decades, I have seen the keyboard market go through a lot of changes. The rise of artisan keyboards really opened up the market and brought mechanical keyboards to a much wider audience. With that came an influx of options and innovation.
For the last 10 years or so, I have tried to help friends (both real world, and online) with their keyboard problems. I have often found myself building new boards for those with less experience and really enjoyed going that extra mile to see their wide eyes in amazement the first time they used it. Simply put – I just love keyboards.
As the demand on me grew, I started noticing a repetitive request – “I love my gaming keyboard, qmk/tmk is simply too difficult for me to learn, and I just want this gaming keyboard to be better”. And so – Upgrade Keyboards was born.
I have expanded from just basic upgrades into a wide array of services, custom builds, and our very own keyboards!
One thing remains constant – I pride myself on the quality of work we do here. I do not strive for “good enough” – It is either perfection, or nothing. I get my hands dirty tearing down boards, lubing switches, doing mods to old boards, and I love it as much now as the first time I tinkered with that original Model M.
When you buy a board from us or upgrade an old board – our goal is not just for you to be happy with your purchase – but to be excited about your new mechanical keyboard.
